A Tsawwassen photographer is one of 20 photographers from across the country who have been named to Team Canada for a prestigious competition.
Stefan Malloch represents Canada for the second time to participate in the Photography World Cup. This unique Olympic-style competition not only celebrates the best photographic art in the world, but also fosters the spirit of friendship and cooperation among photographers around the world.
“Really, it’s a dream come true to be part of Team Canada for the second time,” he said. “The first time was overshadowed by my mother’s cancer diagnosis. Leslie Sharpe was my mother and a long-time community-loved Ladnerite. She was a photographer and inspired me. Photography helps me deal with trauma and life.
The selected photographers represent professionals and emerging artists in all genres of photography. Each has produced works that have successfully gone through several curatorial cycles to become part of Team Canada.
Last year, Canada won a gold medal at the competition.
International judging is complete and the top 10 images will be announced soon, with the main event winners being announced in March at the World Cup of Photography Finals.
