The GB News host was named Aspirational Public Figure Of The Year at the Inspiration Awards for Women

Bev Turner has vowed to keep fighting for free speech after receiving a prestigious award for her work as a broadcaster.

The GB News presenter, who has been a vocal critic of lockdown policies, has been named Aspirational Public Figure of the Year at the Inspiration Awards for Women.

Bev collected the gong from London’s Landmark Hotel in a star-studded event, which also saw broadcasting legend Mary Berry win a lifetime achievement award.

Commenting on this success, she said, “I am extremely honored to have received this award. I would like to dedicate it to all those who have despaired of the lack of balanced debate and honest reporting that we have witnessed since the spring of 2020.

“I would also like to say a special thank you to everyone who has sent me messages of support whenever I have been criticized for trying to provide an alternative view. Rest assured that I will continue to fight to be an advocate for freedom of speech.

Bev started a new show, called Bev Turner Today, on GB News in 2022 after appearing regularly as a panelist.

She said: “The audience seemed to warm to me probably because like them I am also an avid viewer of the channel.

“Off-screen, I had a tough few years. I got divorced and chose to prioritize my kids over my career for a while. Then I found myself largely sidelined by the media for questioning and criticizing the lockdown policies which – for me – were always going to cause more harm than good.

“Fortunately now, with a more stable family life, the time seems right for the huge commitment of a daily live show – and there’s nowhere I’d rather do that than at GB News.

“This award makes me even more determined to ensure that GB News remains the undisputed home of free speech.”

Speaking to Eamonn Holmes on GB News Breakfast, Bev said she was shocked to be nominated after organizers contacted her to confirm her consideration.

She said: ‘When I got the comments from the judges, they said the feeling they were getting from the people who voted, the fact that you were an advocate for free speech over the past two years, the difficult conversations you had on television asking the questions about the logic of the closures, about the closure of schools, about the closure of businesses.

“People relied on the fact that they were also having difficult conversations. It was difficult for everyone.”

The presenter added: “It’s great, and it’s also great for GB News.

“It’s not just for me, it’s also for the channel and what we hope to represent.”

The Inspiration Awards for Women, dubbed the Oscars for Women, were created to recognize those who have been role models for the next generation of girls.

It recognizes women from all walks of life and previous winners have included Dame Helen Mirren; Baroness Doreen Lawrence, Katie Piper and Adele.

The awards were created over a decade ago to help showcase the stories of many women with inspiring stories of how they fought through adversity and succeeded.
