CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Joe Thomas had a big night as host of the Greater Cleveland Sports Awards, but he has an even bigger one to come.

On February 9, Thomas will learn if he is inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Everyone expects Thomas to enter. He told reporters he tried not to think about it for as long as possible. “I didn’t give it much thought until the semi-finalist list was released and now the finalist list is released. Then you start having people from the Hall of Fame reaching out to you and the Browns telling you, ‘Hey, if you come in, these are possible things we’re going to do,’ Thomas said. ‘It becomes real when you do this.’

Thomas says if or when the “Hall Call” comes, as it’s called, it’ll be time to celebrate. He wants it to involve Cleveland somehow. “Preliminary ideas are thrown out there to definitely do something that can celebrate the whole city,” he said.

The 2007 first draft pick made 10 Pro Bowls and was a first-team All Pro six times, but says he’s probably most proud of playing every shot of his career. “It’s something that’s never been done in the NFL before,” he said. “For me, it’s a reflection of what my teammates meant to me and how important it was for me to be there to help them.”
