INDIANAPOLIS – Three Jaguars have won weekly Horizon League prizes with Gabrielle Puryear Lynch and Danish Charleston winning their first #HLSD Swimmer of the Week awards and Sebastien Otero earning his sixth Diver of the Week award.

    Rookie Gabby Puryear-Lynch posted three fastest times, including an IUPUI record and a relay win in the IUPUI win over Butler to earn her first #HLSD Swimmer of the Week award. She swept all three butterfly races with the best times in the 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly. Puryear-Lynch took the fastest time in the 200 butterfly with an IUPUI record time of 2:01.86. She took first place in the 100 butterfly (55.72) and 50 butterfly (25.14). The Windermere, Fla. rookie also helped lead the women’s 200 medley relay team to a first-place finish.

    Danish Charleston, a sophomore from Acworth, Georgia, earned his first #HLSD Swimmer of the Week award after posting three individual fastest times and a second-place finish in the relay in the Jaguars’ win over Wabash. Charleston swept the backstroke events with the best times in the 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke. He clocked the fastest time in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:50.66 and took first place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.39. The sophomore clocked 23.49 to take first place in the 50m backstroke and helped his relay team finish second in the 200m medley relay.

    First-year student Sebastien Otero was named Horizon League Diver of the Week after winning the men’s competition against Wabash. Otero won the 3 meter dive setting yet another IUPUI record, this time with a score of 397.05. He also won the 1 meter dive with a score of 337.28. Otero continued to show his excellence in the Horizon League by winning the #HLSD Diver of the Week every time he won a total of sixth prizes.

    The IUPUI swim and dive team now has a total of 16 weekly #HLSD awards with nine different Jaguars winning the title.

    Since the IUPUI Diving Duel against UIndy this week was called off, Puryear-Lynch, Charleston and Otero will all be gearing up for the Horizon League Championships which kick off on Wednesday February 15 and last until Saturday February 18.
